Specific eligibility for this recognition is based on the following criteria:
- Students must have a GPA of B+ (at least 3.3 or 87%-89%) or higher at the time of submission (both weighted and unweighted GPAs are considered).
- Students must have a permanent address in the United States, a U.S. territory, a U.S. military base, or attend a DoDEA school. U.S. citizenship is not required.
- Students must identify as Black/African American, Latino/Hispanic, Indigenous/Native, first-generation college students, or attend a high school in a rural area or small town.
- Students must also be in the top 10% of PSAT 10 and PSAT/NMSQT test-takers in their state for their award program, or they must have scored a 3 or higher on at least two distinct AP exams by the end of 10th grade.
