Connecticut Tragedy

A letter from the Dearborn Public Schools Superintendent regarding the Connecticut Tragedy.

Dear Community Members,

I know all of us are deeply saddened by the tragic event that occurred in Connecticut on Friday.  As rational people we struggle to understand actions that are totally irrational and try to make sense of explanations that never will.

When we see the faces of the innocent children, the victims of this tragedy, we can’t help but see the faces of our own students.  When we hear of the heroic principal and teachers risking their lives to save students, we feel the pain and sympathize with those who knew and worked with these brave individuals.  For all of us our hearts are filled with sorrow and as a community we offer our thoughts and prayers to the families in Newtown.

Our staff does an excellent job of having “the pulse” of their school and over the next few days will be paying extra attention to how the students are reacting to this tragedy.  If any child seems  (Click for more information, Connecticut Tragedy)

Attn: 9th / 10th Graders

Early College students are required to have a seasonal flu vaccination by December 1, 2012.  The only exceptions are those who have medical or religious reasons for declining the vaccination.  There will not be an opportunity to decline and wear a mask during the flu season this year.

Noncompliance is grounds for termination of participation in the HFHS portion of the HFEC education.

Attached are the declination forms that must be submitted to decline the flu vaccine, one for medical and one for religious.  If a staff member or student declines, this form must be submitted by the deadline.

HFHS Flu Religious Exemption Form and HFHS Flu Medical Exemption Form

Only the Henry Ford form is acceptable for declination purposes under the revised Employee Health Screening Policy 4.10. Hand-written notes, personal letters and the like will not be accepted.

Once completed and signed by their physician or religious leader, the form must be submitted to Ms. Marva Brooks, fax to 313.874.9465. These persons don’t need to wear a mask during the flu season.

Those who have a documented medical reason not listed on the form are advised to contact Employee Health. Calls should be directed to:

  •           Karen Karwowski at 313.916.6140 for Henry Ford Hospital and Health Network, 1 Ford Place and Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital.

Students who receive the flu vaccine outside of Employee Health must send the information to Ms. Brooks.  You may either drop off in person, email mbrooks1@hfhs.org or fax 313.874.9465.  Please direct any questions to Ms. Brooks, contact info below.
